Laocoon being crushed by serpents sent by Poseidon

When the Greeks left the Trojan horse at the gates of Troy, Laocoon said that he feared Greeks even when they bear gifts. As punishment for saying this, Poseidon sent two sea serpents to kill Laocoon and his sons. This action hastened the Trojans acceptance of the horse into the city which eventually led to the Trojan's defeat.
